Meals, Snacks And Rest Periods

During the course of a full day children will be provided with the following:

8.00 am – 9.00 am Breakfast
10.15 am – 10.30 am Morning Snack
11.45 am Under 2’s Lunch
12-15 pm Over 2’s
4.00 pm – 4.30 pm Tea time

Food types

Red Robin aims to offer a diverse mixture of healthy foods in order to encourage healthy eating into adulthood. We offer foods which reflect the cultures, religions and medical needs of the children in our nursery. Through this we can, not only educate children about different foods but they can appreciate food from different cultures. We encourage parents not to bring in sweets to the nursery with the exception of birthdays and other celebrations when they can be given at home time.

Dietary requirements

At the point of registration parents will be asked the dietary requirements of the child. This is important to ensure that a child does not have any adverse reactions to any foods that may be provided.

We offer vegetarian options upon request

We will inform parents what food children have eaten via the menu notice board and individual charts.

Eating arrangements

The under 2s will eat in their area with members of staff. The over 2s have lunch together in the same way. During meal times children will be taught good table manners and how to use cutlery or in a way which is natural to them. Meal times are also an opportunity to talk to their peers and staff.

Rest Periods

Rest periods are provided if the children feel that they need to sleep. If children are not tired they are encouraged to be involved in quiet activities. Babies will sleep when they need to and will be placed in a cot situated in the same room as the staff. We will try to help all children into a routine of sleeping between 1pm and 2.30pm. If children appear tired they will be accommodated in a quiet area.
